The New Uses for Collections in Art Museums Partnership, in collaboration with the Canada Research Chair in Citizen Museology, is offering a $25,000 grant to fund a research residency in decolonial museology, starting September 1, 2024.
The residency is open to artists, museum professionals, and researchers.
Eligibility criteria
1- Having a good experience of the conditions led to the development of decolonial museology;
2- Holding an advanced university degree in disciplines relevant to the research project;
3- Not being employed by one of the project's partner museums;
4- Not being enrolled full-time in a university program or postdoctoral fellowship;
5- Having a good understanding of oral and written French.
Mandate
1- Participate in the Partnership’s four research workshops and address a presentation in one of them;
2- Present a public lecture;
3- Oversee invitations of guest researchers to broaden; diversify, and enrich the perspective on collections and museology;
4- Propose a program of public activities to initiate reflection on the decolonization of collections at the end of the residency;
5- Contribute to the Encyclopedia of New Uses of Collections in Art Museums.
Application process
Applications must be sent to coordination@cieco.co no later than March 31, 2024. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. The application must include the following:
1- A cover presentation;
2- A presentation of the project’s framework;
3- A bibliography (1 page max.);
4- CV;
5- Two articles or one portfolio.
All assembled in a single PDF document.
Communication of selection results
After reviewing the applications, the Selection Committee will meet in April 2024, and the Partnership will communicate the results before the end of summer 2024. The Selection Committee reserves the right not to allow the scholarship.
Payment of the fellowship
The amount of $25,000 includes social benefits if the fellowship is to be converted into a research contract.
